THE financial audits of the CNMI government are underway, Secretary of Finance David DLG Atalig said.
“I’ve completed the final review of the financial statements and the management decision analysis. That has been submitted last week to Deloitte and Touche. We’re just waiting for them to completely issue it out. I was hoping to get it on Friday,” he said, referring to the Fiscal Year 2020 audit.
He said the preliminary FY 2021 audit is already being prepared through Ernst & Young, but an ending balance from FY 2020 is needed.
“We have a fast-tracked schedule to do that,” he said.
Moreover, a request for proposals has already gone out for the FY 2022 financial audit of the central government, Atalig added.
“We’re going to push and get this all worked out,” he said.
The independent candidate for governor, Lt. Gov. Arnold I. Palacios, has expressed concern about the delay in the CNMI financial audits for fiscal years 2020 and 2021.
He said the delay may jeopardize federal grant opportunities.
