A fire protection system unintentionally triggered at the Westfield Galleria at Roseville on Monday morning affected several businesses at the area’s largest shopping mall. While most of those have resumed operations, one store remains closed and could miss out on the biggest shopping day of the year.
The Roseville Fire Department reported that the shopping mall’s fire protection system was triggered Monday morning just after 9 a.m., when a construction worker accidentally hit the system’s pipe while working at the site, triggering the system to discharge large amounts of water. Several businesses had to temporarily close while crews worked to shut the water off and assess the damage.
The businesses affected included Amazing Alterations, Cotton On Kids, Wetzel’s Pretzels, Hot Topic, Mainland Surf & Skate, Quickly and a Lolli & Pops location under construction.
Jennifer Crowley, a spokesperson for Westfield Galleria, said all of the stores were open and operating on Tuesday afternoon aside from Cotton On Kids, which is temporarily closed for repairs.
With Black Friday just days away, Crowley said no impacts are expected at the mall this holiday weekend, other than Cotton On Kids being closed. She didn’t specify when the business is expected to reopen.
The Westfield Galleria opened in 2000 and is 1.23 million square feet, making it the Sacramento area’s largest shopping center.
